Have you ever wondered what

Accountants really think about Bookkeepers?

This question prompted us to commence a research project and met with varying levels of Accountants and Tax Agents. You may be surprised at the hierarchy of the Accounting industry –yet that topic is best left for another day.

Some of the questions that were asked of our profession were:
  • Do you know where your bookkeeping skill should end and your Accounting skills begin?
  • Do you offer your clients services that you have no skill or qualification for?
  • Do you believe certain services are out of bounds for Bookkeepers?
  • Do you keep working papers?
  • Do you know what working papers are?
  • Are you insured?
  • Have you studied or just picked it up as you go along?
  • Do you attend courses on a regular basis for your continued education?
  • Do you ask for feedback from your client’s accountant?
  • Do you adhere to  Accounting Standards

Some of you may know all the answers and have ticked all the boxes and for that we congratulate you.  Some of you may not and may not be sure how to begin the process.
Our March Networking Event will be designed to address all these issues in a fun and friendly environment. We are very fortunate to have Tony Vidray from Anderson Vidray Accountants as our guest speaker together with three bookkeepers of various skill levels willing to go head to head with Tony on the big questions.
Tony is a graduate of the University of Newcastle and is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.  He was formerly a supervisor with Ernst & Young (previously Ernst & Whinney).  He provides specialist taxation, superannuation and accounting services to a wide and diverse portfolio of clients.
He is happily married with three daughters and outside of work, he is a football (soccer) tragic, enjoys collecting music and is a member of the Rotary Club of Newcastle.
Tony is a Novocastrian Thespian (lover of live theatre) and his great love of music has now seen him become a regular presenter at Newcastle Community radio station 103.7 2NUR-FM.
And no, Tony will not be singing an excerpt from the Sound of Music with Sue. (As much as she would enjoy that!).

Please join us for our March Networking Event.  I promise you a fun filled evening wih friendly people, great food and wine,  informative guest speaker and an opportunity to meet new people and create opportunities.
