March 2017

Why do you do what you do, and are you telling the world?

Most of our blogs take roughly 10 – 15 minutes to read.   Well this one is very different.

This week you only have 1 minute of reading then 15 minutes of watching a TED talk that could be a game-changer for you.  It could have an equal impact on your clients if you share the principles discussed as part of a truly value-adding bookkeeping service.

For those of you who may have already seen it, I strongly recommend you view it again.  The business world, your clients and you are different from when you last saw it.

I want to start a revolution!

I am over superannuation payments, and this week a non-payment of superannuation tipped me over the edge – because it now affects my son!

I am embarrassed to admit that I saw red when he communicated that his superannuation membership had been cancelled, apparently because his employer had not paid his super.  “WHAT” I yelled!   He opened a superannuation account last year and had not had any contributions contributed because he started his work life as a subcontractor.

One App at a Time

At some point whilst creating the mowing strip edge it struck me. The same thing applies to doing our businesses bookkeeping and infact, all our clients work. Doing a little bit of work on it every day or so saves a lot more effort than would be required if that work was  left alone for an extended period.

KPIs for Beginners

So for those of you who are new to KPIs let’s talk about how we can make them useful in the real world, rather than just as some mathematical formula on a page.  As we demystify KPIs you will see thay are generally common sense and you probably already use many of them every day!  The best place to start is how KPIs can help you run your business to improve efficiency, provide more free time and/or more money.

Firstly identify your goals or the parts of the business you wish to improve.  Then select KPIs that can measure your results and help you drive the business where you want it to go.  Here are some goals or improvements you may be interested in and the KPIs you could consider;
