How to choose the right Accountant for your Client

I was recently asked by two businesses for my suggestions regarding a change of their accountant. One, a long term client of mine, asked as their accountant had merged with another firm and the client is not happy about this. The other is a new client who is being charged the seemingly large accounting firm obligatory fee which in this circumstance amounts to 10% of the turnover, and the client is certainly not being provided any value for money.

For a long time I have had an arsenal of great accountants who are pro-active with the clients and bookkeepers.  My list is 7 deep, so what do they have or do that allows them to be on the list and why do I recommend them?

Bookkeepers becoming redundant? I don't think so!

Uniting Bookkeepers is dedicated this year to helping you get on board with automation.  I do not believe our role as a bookkeeper is obsolete, I believe it has evolved and will continue to evolve.  I know one thing for sure, if you DO NOT embrace the new technology you will not be able to compete in the market place.  Small business owners want automation and efficiency so the best bit of advice I can give you is start today.

The Automated Bookkeeping Practice

In the 80’s I worked for an Accountant, I would enter the accountants written codes from bank statements into a large computer that all the accountants shared to produce a  general ledger for the business.  I also used an 18 column ledger to manually enter information plus I typed up Balance Sheets and Profit & Loss reports on an Adler typewriter in triplicate.  I was known as the secretary/clerk, yet I did the tasks of a bookkeeper.  The accounting firm eventually obtained a desktop computer with MYOB V8 and I was trusted with mastering the program.
